Accessibility statement
Weddings are for everyone, and so is this website. Here is what I have done to make it usable however you browse, where it still falls short, and how to reach me if it gets in your way.
This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at Level AA — the standard the Australian Human Rights Commission points to in its guidance on the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth). It is a small site, built and looked after by one person. I would rather tell you plainly where it meets that standard and where it does not than claim a clean sheet.
What is in place
- You can use every page with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing you reach, the focus outline is always visible, and the menu on a phone closes with the Escape key.
- The structure is real HTML. Headings, lists, landmarks and buttons are marked up as what they are, so a screen reader announces the shape of a page instead of a wall of text.
- Every photograph carries a written description, and the decorative flourishes between words are hidden from screen readers rather than read out as punctuation.
- The enquiry form is labelled throughout. Each field is tied to its label, tells your browser what it is for so it can fill it in, reads out any error, and reads out the thank-you when your message has sent.
- Text reflows to a 320 pixel screen without you having to scroll sideways.
- Motion is optional. If your device is set to reduce motion, the menu animation is switched off.
Where it still falls short
I would rather name these than let you find them:
- Contrast on the brand colours. Some text sits on the deep pink and coral panels — the introduction on the home page, the wording inside the two service cards, the numbered steps, the star ratings and one of the package prices — below the 4.5:1 contrast ratio Level AA asks for. Those are the colours the business is built around, and changing them is a decision I am still working through rather than one I have made. Everything they say is also said in ordinary dark text elsewhere on the site.
- No independent audit. The checks behind this page are my own, using automated tools together with keyboard and screen reader testing. No third-party accessibility specialist has reviewed the site.
- Photo descriptions are brief. They tell you what a photograph shows, not every detail of it. If one is not doing its job for you, say so and I will rewrite it.
You never have to use this website
Everything here can be done another way. Nothing about booking a ceremony or ordering flowers depends on getting through a web form.
- Call or text me on 0413 786 402.
- Email [email protected]. I reply within two working days.
- Ask for what you need in a different format — large print, the pricing as plain text, a phone call instead of the enquiry form, or a conversation in person.
If you are deaf, or find it hard to hear or to speak on the phone, you can reach me through the National Relay Service and ask them to call 0413 786 402.
Tell me when something does not work
If any part of this site stops you doing what you came to do, please email [email protected] with the page you were on and what happened. A sentence is plenty. I read every message myself, I will reply within two working days, and I will tell you honestly whether it is something I can fix quickly or something that has to go on the list.
If you are not satisfied with how I respond, you can make a complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Getting married should never depend on being able to use a website. If this one is in your way, say hello whichever way suits you and we will sort it out.
